The Coalition Government has announced a £4.2m boost for school sports in Lancashire from September. Every state primary school in the County will receive funding for sports in 2013/14 and 2014/15. Approximately £68,415 will be spent in  primary schools  in Preston West is as follows:

  • £8,540 for Pool House Primary School
  • £8,510 for Holy Family Catholic Primary School
  • £8,250 for Ingol Primary School
  • £8,900 for Cottam Primary School
  • £8,625 for Lea Primary School
  • £8,370 for Lea St Mary’s School
  • £8,555 for Lea Endowed School
  • £8,665 for St Bernard’s School

The funding is the equivalent of around two days a week of a primary teacher’s time to provide more sport for their pupils. County Cllr Bill Winlow strongly supports this move, “This money means children in Preston will be able to take part in sport in primary schools. Sport can help children to build confidence, understand teamwork and, above all, keep healthy. The best legacy of last year’s Olympic Games would be more children taking part in sport and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle”.
