ENSURING ACCESS TO INGOL GOLF COURSE

by professorbillwinlow on 28 April, 2013

We welcome the reopening of the Ingol golf course – but are getting increasingly concerned about reports that dog walkers and others are being prevented from walking their usual routes, as the new operators have been erecting new gating and signage “to reduce the influx of ramblers and dog walkers who have recently used the whole course freely” (as it says on the Ingol Golf Course website). We would remind the owners and operators that the Planning Inquiry that rejected the plans to build houses on the site drew attention to the important role this open space provides to the people of both Ingol & Tanterton and Greyfriars. Bill Winlow says ”There have always been both public rights of way and permissive routes around and across the course. Obviously, you can’t have people walking across the fairways and greens, but I hope the new operators will recognise that this is a community asset, to be enjoyed by ramblers and dog walkers as well as golfers, and that they will find a way of accommodating the needs of both”.
