County Councillor Bill Winlow and his team have been surveying residents on Blackpool Road. People are generally much happier since the road was remarked to reduce its width. It is easier to get out of their drives and most agree that speeding has been reduced. But there is still a problem from the Leagate end of the built up area to the junction with Aldfield Avenue where there is a pedestrian crossing.
“Cars tend not to slow down until the pedestrian crossing. I have asked Highways to move the speed limit signs further west towards the Leagate, add more rumble strips and consider an earlier speed indicator device (SPID). I have also alerted the police to the problem” says County Cllr Bill Winlow. “They agree with me that the current SPID should be better calibrated than at present and will be doing more patrols. We still need to do more to make this section of Blackpool Road safer”, Bill concludes.
