Bill gives thumbs up to Highways and Transport Master Plan

by professorbillwinlow on 9 February, 2013

It is hoped that the Lancashire County Council Transport Master Plan  will allow Preston to take rational planning decisions against a background of knowing where and when the essential roads and services will be in place. County Councillor Bill Winlow says “I welcome this Plan, and hope it will mean no new building will take place in North West Preston until the structures are in place to cope with it.”

The Plan envisages capacity improvements at the M55 junction 1 and also on the A6 at Broughton—and Bill Winlow has particularly welcomed the proposals for a new junction on the M55 to the west of Preston, and new Western Distributor Road, which eventually might lead through to a new western crossing of the Ribble.

Bill also says “I also welcome the proposed new rail station in Cottam, further west than had been discussed previously, the proposed Public Realm works at Lane Ends and the proposed Bus Corridor improvements for Tag Lane. What we now needed is Social Development strategy from Preston City Council to adequately plan for local services such as schools and helath centers. This cannot just be left to the developers, otherwise we will have piecemeal approach which will satisfy no-one.”
